As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Siren & Safe participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
How it works
When you follow a product link from this site and buy something, we may receive a small commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly.
That commission is how Magoo Media Group pays for this site. There is no paywall, no newsletter upsell and no advertising on these pages.
What our links do
Product links on this site are routed through our own /go path before reaching the retailer. That exists for two practical reasons: it keeps the tracking identifier in one place in our codebase rather than scattered across hundreds of pages, and it means we can change which retailer a product points to without editing the article it sits in.
Every affiliate link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and opens in a new tab. The /go path is excluded from search-engine crawling.
Links to NFPA, UL Solutions, CPSC, the CDC, the US Fire Administration and manufacturer documentation are not affiliate links. Those are citations, we earn nothing from them, and they are deliberately not marked nofollow — pointing at a primary source is the point.
Why we never show a price
Because we do not cache retailer prices. Prices change constantly, and a number printed on a page is wrong more often than it is right — which on a site about safety equipment is a small dishonesty with no upside.
So every buy button on this site says check price on Amazon and sends you to the live listing to see for yourself. If that ever changes, any price we display will carry a visible “as of” date and will disappear automatically once it is more than 48 hours old, rather than sitting there going stale.
What commission does not buy
A position in a ranking. Every list on this site is ordered on the criteria published on how we review, and where the cheaper or better-stocked option earns us less, it still goes first.
The enforcement mechanism is worth stating because a promise on its own is worth little: all the money links on this site currently point to one retailer at one commission rate, so there is no rate differential between products for us to optimize. If that changes — if we join a brand-direct program at a higher rate — the rule stays the same and this page will say which programs are live.
We accept no payment for placement, no sponsored content and no gifted products in exchange for coverage.
Where you will see this disclosed
A short disclosure appears above the first affiliate link on every page that carries one — not only in the footer. A footer-only disclosure is not adequate notice, and the Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on disclosures is clear that it needs to be where the reader will actually see it before acting.
Each buy button also carries a small #ad label linking back to this page.
Programs we are in
Amazon Associates, and at the time of writing that is the only one. Where a manufacturer is named on this site without a buy link — First Alert and Kidde documentation, for instance — we are linking to their published specifications and earn nothing from it.
If we join a retailer or brand-direct program later, the rule about buyer-first ordering does not change, and we will only ever build a tracked link for a program we have actually joined.
