Short, because the site collects very little. Written to describe what actually happens rather than to cover every eventuality.

What we collect
If you use the contact form: the name, email address, subject category and message you type. That is sent to our own inbox by email so we can reply, and it is retained in that mailbox. It is not added to a marketing list, because there is no marketing list. It is not sold or shared.
Standard server logs. Our host records request data including IP address, user agent and the page requested, which is ordinary web-server operation and is used for security and to keep the site working. The contact form also keeps a short-lived, in-memory count of submissions per IP address to limit automated spam; that count is not persisted and disappears when the server process recycles.
Analytics. At the time of writing this site loads no analytics or advertising scripts at all. If we add privacy-respecting analytics later, this section will be updated to name the provider and say what it collects before it goes live.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal information. Ever.
- We do not run advertising networks, retargeting pixels or social tracking widgets on this site.
- We do not require an account, and there is nothing to log into.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Affiliate link tracking
This site is funded by affiliate commission, and that mechanism involves a third party knowing you arrived from here. When you click a product link, you pass briefly through a path on this site that adds our affiliate identifier and then forwards you to the retailer. The retailer — Amazon, at the time of writing — then uses its own cookies and tracking to attribute any purchase to us.
We do not receive your name, address, payment details or the contents of your cart. We receive aggregate commission reporting from the retailer. What the retailer collects once you are on their site is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own for tracking or personalization. Retailers you click through to will set their own. Your browser controls let you block or clear those, and blocking them will not stop this site working — it will only stop the retailer attributing a purchase to us.
Your rights
If you have sent us a message and want it deleted, email contact@sirenandsafe.com and we will delete it from the mailbox. Because we hold no accounts and no database of readers, there is generally nothing else about you for us to export, correct or delete.
Depending on where you live you may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR to access, correct or delete personal information a business holds about you, and to be free from discrimination for exercising them. The same address handles those requests.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — new analytics, a new affiliate network, anything that alters what is collected — we will update the page and move the last-reviewed date at the top. We do not consider a silent edit acceptable here any more than we do in an article.
